25- Any doubts about the relationship? For Spicyhoney ^^

itsladykit:

Yes. These two have a bundle of insecurities between them, and that will cause some difficulties, particularly early in the relationship.

Edge isn’t fully sure that he’s actually capable of sustaining a romantic relationship. His LV has calcified his soul, making it very difficulty to keep in touch with his emotions. Not only that, he’s not sure that he could ever soul-bond with another monster, and he’s convinced that a Tale-verse monster would need that connection to be happy in a relationship.

In short, at first, he’s pretty well convinced that Rus is going to leave as soon as something (someone) better comes along. He tells himself he’s okay with that, but it results in some jealousy and hurt feelings early on. Though it probably doesn’t manifest in the way you’d assume. Edge doesn’t lash out when he’s jealous. He pulls back, trying to mentally prepare himself for the split he knows is coming.

Rus, meanwhile, has a hard time understanding where Edge is coming from. He doesn’t understand a lot of the Fell-verse bullshit that crops up between them. He especially doesn’t understand why Edge doesn’t just ditch Underfell and come live in Underswap with him. The younger brothers (like Edge) tend to be more community-minded, while the elder brothers are more insular—Rus is more than happy with just a few close friends and the people he considers family. He doesn’t really understand why Edge needs more than that, and it hurts his feelings. It makes him feel inadequate and a little unloved, which is complicated by Edge’s hesitance to demonstrate his affection more overtly. Rus needs reassurance, and Edge doesn’t know how to provide that.

These guys will need to have some hard conversations if they want to maintain their relationship, or their fears will eventually become a self-fulfilling prophecy. (I have faith in them.)
